Crochet Bat Ornament Pattern (Easy Halloween Decor)

This flat bat motif is a quick, satisfying make for Halloween decorating — string several into a garland, hang from a window, or use as a fun gift tag.

Materials

• Black worsted weight yarn (about 10g per bat)
• Small amount of white or yellow yarn for eyes
• 4.0mm crochet hook
• Yarn needle
• Twine or ribbon for hanging

Body

Fasten off, leaving a tail.

Wings (make 2)

Chain 10.

Row 1: sc in 2nd ch from hook, hdc in next 2 sts, dc in next 3 sts, hdc in next 2 sts, sc in last st. This creates a curved, tapering wing shape.

For the classic scalloped bat-wing edge, work 2-3 small picots (ch 2, sl st back into the same stitch) along the outer curved edge before fastening off.

Fasten off, leaving a tail for sewing.

Ears

Chain 3, sl st in 2nd ch from hook and next ch to form a tiny pointed triangle. Fasten off. Make a second to match.

Assembly

Sew the wide end of each wing to either side of the round body. Sew the two small ear triangles to the top of the head/body.
