Crochet Baby Booties Pattern (Easy Newborn Shoes)

These simple booties work up quickly and stay on well thanks to a small strap and button closure — no more lost shoes on baby's feet during a walk.

Materials

• Soft DK weight cotton yarn (about 25g)
• 3.5mm crochet hook
• Two small buttons
• Yarn needle

Sole (make 2)

Chain 9.

Round 1: sc in 2nd ch from hook and across, 3 sc in last ch, continue sc down the other side, 2 sc in first st to close. (20 sc)

Round 2: inc in first and last st of each short end, sc around. (24)

Body

Continuing directly from the sole, work even rounds of sc for 6-7 rounds to build the height of the shoe, working in a continuous spiral.

Toe Shaping

Next round: work sc around only the front half of the stitches (about 12 sts), turn, and work 2-3 more rows back and forth on just these front stitches, decreasing 1-2 stitches per row to round off the toe.

Ankle Strap

On the back half of the remaining stitches, chain a small strap extension (6-8 sts) from one side, then continue sc across the back stitches, and chain a matching extension on the other side, creating a strap that will wrap around and button closed.

Button Closure

Sew a button to one end of the strap. Work a small buttonhole loop (chain a length that fits your button, sl st to close) at the other end, or simply crochet a small loop stitch directly into the strap during the row above.

Finishing

Weave in all ends. Repeat entirely to make the second bootie.

Tip: block the finished booties over a small round object (like a spice jar wrapped in plastic) to help them hold a neat, rounded shape while drying.
