Crochet Coin Purse Pattern (Easy Small Zipper Pouch)
BeginnerYarn: Worsted (Size 4)Hook: 4.0mm (G-6)Time: 1-2 hours2 min read

This small zippered pouch is one of the fastest useful projects in crochet โ€” perfect for using up small amounts of leftover yarn, and genuinely handy for coins, earbuds, or lip balm.

Materials

  • Small amount of worsted weight yarn (about 20g)
  • 4.0mm crochet hook
  • A 4-5 inch zipper
  • Sewing needle and thread (for attaching the zipper)
  • Yarn needle

Abbreviations

  • ch โ€” chain
  • sc โ€” single crochet
  • st(s) โ€” stitch(es)

Pouch Body

Worked as one flat rectangle, folded and seamed at the end.

Chain 16.

Row 1: sc in 2nd ch from hook and across. Turn. (15 sc)

Rows 2-20: ch 1, sc across. Turn.

This builds a rectangle approximately 4 inches wide and 5 inches tall (10 rows folds to make a 2.5 inch tall pouch โ€” adjust row count for your desired finished size).

Fasten off.

Assembly

Fold the rectangle in half widthwise, right sides together. Single crochet or whip stitch the two side seams closed, leaving the top edge open.

Attaching the Zipper

Turn the pouch right-side out. Pin the zipper into the top opening, with the zipper teeth facing up and the fabric tape tucked slightly inside the opening on both sides. Using a sewing needle and thread, hand-sew the zipper tape securely to the inside of the top edge on both the front and back panels, using small whip stitches or a simple running stitch.

Finishing

Weave in all yarn ends. Test the zipper to make sure it opens and closes smoothly before adding any final embellishments like a small tassel or bead on the zipper pull.

Tip: single crochet fabric has some stretch, so sew the zipper in with the pouch opening held slightly stretched taut โ€” this keeps the zipper lying flat rather than puckering once you let go.
