Crochet Crossbody Bag Pattern (Easy Everyday Bag)

This crossbody bag is a compact, practical everyday piece — big enough for a phone, cards, and keys, with a long adjustable strap for hands-free wear.

Materials

• 200-250g worsted weight cotton yarn
• 4.0mm crochet hook
• Yarn needle
• A button or magnetic snap for the flap closure
• Optional: fabric for lining

Bag Body

Worked in the round from the base up.

Chain 16.

Round 1 (Base): sc in 2nd ch from hook and across, 3 sc in last ch, continue sc down the other side, 2 sc in first st to close. (32 sc)

Round 2: inc in first and last st of each short end, sc around evenly. (36)

Rounds 3-5: sc around, increasing slightly at the rounded ends to keep the base flat. (approx. 40)

Rounds 6-24: sc around in each stitch with no increases, working in a continuous spiral. This builds the height of the bag to about 9-10 inches.

Fasten off at the top opening.

Flap

Working from the back top edge of the bag, join yarn and work back and forth in rows:

Row 1: sc across the back stitches (about half the total round). Turn.

Rows 2-8: ch 1, sc across. Turn. — building a rectangular flap about 5-6 inches long.

Row 9 (rounded edge, optional): decrease 1-2 sts at each end for a few rows to taper the flap into a rounded or pointed shape, or leave straight for a simple rectangular flap.

Fasten off.

Strap

Chain a length to your desired strap size (typically 120-140 sts for a crossbody length, adjust to preference).

Row 1: sc in 2nd ch from hook and across.

Row 2: ch 1, sc across for extra strength and thickness.

Fasten off, leaving tails at both ends for sewing.

Assembly

Sew the ends of the strap securely to the inside top edges of the bag, on opposite sides. Sew or attach a button on the front of the bag body to align with a buttonhole or loop worked into the tip of the flap, or attach a magnetic snap between the flap and body.

Finishing

Weave in all ends. If lining, cut fabric to match the bag's interior shape and hand-sew it in place along the top edge.

Tip: work the bag body in a tight gauge (go down half a hook size from what's recommended on your yarn label) for extra structure and to prevent stretching under the weight of contents.
